Thonningia sanguinea is a flowering plant distributed throughout western and southern Africa, especially in the tropical regions. Common names in different African languages include ground pineapple, pineapple of the bush, duiker’s kolanut, and crown of the ground. It is not related to pineapple; it is a member of the Santalales family, a parasitic grouping.
